Golf Savings Bank Rescues
Savings Account Plan for Local School
Mountlake Terrace, Wash. — July 20, 2009 — Beginning this Fall, Golf Savings Bank will offer a bank savings deposit program for students of Canyon Creek Elementary School.
The Northshore district school had previously worked with Washington Mutual Bank, now owned by Chase, who had indicated it would continue the program until the start of the school year, but instead dropped it in June.
Golf will host the savings program available to all students in grades K through 6, and school volunteer Stephanie Sivertson couldn’t be happier: “We are so thankful that Golf has agreed to do this for us. It’s a great program and the kids absolutely love it—we were afraid we’d have to cancel it after Chase declined to continue,” the PTA member and student banking chair explained.
Donn Costa, Golf’s Executive Vice President, learned of the situation facing the school and wanted his bank to help keep the program alive: “This is a terrific learning tool for kids and something we didn’t want to see disappear from the community. We’re excited we are able to put the plan in place and work with the school and the kids.”
When Sivertson got involved three years ago, about 15-20 students participated. “Now there are 75 bankers who deposit a total of up to $300 a week,” she said, “and you should see the smiles on their faces when they earn their prizes for meeting their deposit goals.”
